MMK Information regarding suspicious e-mails

At Mayr-Melnhof Karton we are committed to highest data security. Therefore, we want to inform you that in recent weeks an increase of suspicious correspondence (sometimes called phishing e-mails) was noticed, trying to trick our customers into sharing personal information or changing bank details. Such business-to-business identity theft scams can involve the fraudulent redirection of payments into accounts not belonging to Mayr-Melnhof Karton.

In principal, Mayr-Melnhof Karton will never send e-mails to customers in which we ask for any kind of sensitive information (e.g. password, account or bank details). In case you receive an e-mail that looks like it has been sent by Mayr-Melnhof Karton and in which you are asked to supply sensitive information, this e-mail is likely to be a phishing scam.

Report suspicious e-mails

We take phishing and spoofing attempts on our customers very seriously. If you receive any correspondence that you think may not be from Mayr-Melnhof Karton, please send it to us:

  1. Open a new e-mail and attach the e-mail or paste the website link you suspect is fake.
    If you cannot send the e-mail as an attachment, simply forward it.
  2. Send the e-mail to reportphishing@mm-karton.com
    Note: Sending a suspicious e-mail as an attachment is the best way for us to track it.

What to do, if you have already submitted information to suspicious e-mail accounts

If you have already submitted some personal details because of a phishing scam, contact us immediately (e-mail to: reportphishing@mm-karton.com). You must act quickly to avoid possible cases of damage.

USEFUL INFORMATION

… to identify whether an e-mail is from Mayr-Melnhof Karton GmbH or not

Mayr-Melnhof Karton GmbH will NEVER send you an e-mail asking to change bank account details or to provide sensitive information (such as social security number, credit card information or password). If you receive a suspicious e-mail, report it immediately to reportphishing@mm-karton.com.    

Suspicious e-mails or websites often contain:

  • An order confirmation for an item you did not purchase or an attachment to an order confirmation
  • Requests for your username and/or password, or other personal information
  • Requests to update payment information
  • e-mail addresses or links to websites that only look like Mayr-Melnhof Karton GmbH (please check precise wording thoroughly)
  • Typos or grammatical errors
  • Attachments or requests to install software on your computer

… to avoid being affected by phishing scams

  • Use your official contact details of Mayr-Melnhof Karton GmbH to confirm notifications for any changes of banking details.
  • Verify any request for or changes to information with Mayr-Melnhof Karton GmbH over the telephone, ideally with someone you know and have known for some time.
  • Beware of false confirmation e-mails from almost identical e-mail addresses or slight variations from real addresses. For our communication with MMK customers, we only use the e-mail domain ending with
    @mm-karton.com.
  • Ensure you always shred and never throw away your business (and suppliers) invoices or any communication material that contains letterheads.
  • Ensure that your company’s private information is not disclosed to third parties who are not entitled to receive it, or third parties whose identities cannot be suitably verified.
