MMK invests in new Packaging Lines – Improvement of Logistics Processes

Mayr-Melnhof Karton is deploying new, cutting-edge packaging lines at its parent mill in Frohnleiten, Austria, as well as at the Kolicevo mill in Slovenia. This is an important step toward delivering significant added value for our mills, customers and the environment.

By the middle of the year, a new packaging line will be installed for board machine 2 at the Frohnleiten mill. The new system is equipped with synthetic conveyor chains that ensure a uniform, steady flow of pallets, even with small pallet blocks, thereby improve product processing workflows. In the shrinking unit, hot air is blown directly onto the shrinking foil, the foil is shrunk and the base is fused with the vertical foil to provide optimal protection for the cartonboard. This almost halves energy consumption and guarantees maximum energy efficiency. Another benefit is that the hourly production of dispatch-ready packages is also significantly increased.

The European cartonboard industry’s most modern packaging line was successfully installed in December 2011 at the Kolicevo mill, as part of board machine 3’s rebuilding. Here too, we were able to improve the performance, significantly reduce energy consumption and set a new standard evidenced in the perfect look of the packages.

For Mayr-Melnhof Karton customers, the new systems result in excellent supply security and maximum product quality – a decisive competitive advantage.
