Our Norwegian mechanical pulp mill MM FollaCell produces high-quality pulp – BCTMP, CTMP and TMP – from round wood and sawmill chips. The pulp is used for both MM Board & Paper’s virgin fibre and its recycled cartonboard qualities and is also sold on the free market.
MM FollaCell only sources material from sustainable forestry: mainly spruce, pine and birch. Depending on the pulp type, the mill uses 100% softwood, 100% hardwood or a mixture of softwood and hardwood. MM FollaCell’s location in northern Europe is not only advantageous because the raw material grows close to the mill. Access to the Trondheim Fjord also provides an ideal infrastructure: with its own ice-free harbour, the mill can reliably receive and deliver by ship all year round. The energy required for the mill is mainly sourced from an environmentally friendly hydroelectric power plant located nearby.

Establishment of the AS Folla sawmill

MM FollaCell’s story began in 1901, when a sawmill was established in Follafoss under the name AS Folla.

Start of mechanical pulp production

Pulp production started in 1909 and has shaped the development of the region ever since.

Commissioning of a new CTMP production line

The combination of abundant forest resources, renewable hydropower and access to the Trondheim Fjord created ideal conditions for a thriving pulp and paper industry. Over the decades, the mill has continuously evolved, adapting to new technologies and market requirements while maintaining strong ties to the local community.

Acquisition by MM Board & Paper and restart of production

A significant milestone was reached in 2013 when MM Board & Paper acquired the mill and restarted production. Since then, substantial investments have strengthened the site’s competitiveness and supported its long-term development.

Commissioning of a new state-of-the-art production line

Most recently, a state-of-the-art production line was commissioned in 2023.
