Successful Start-Up for MMK FollaCell AS
On 2nd September 2013, production at the chemothermomechanical pulp mill MMK FollaCell AS, Norway, started successfully. High-quality BCTMP and CTMP (bleached and unbleached chemothermomechanical pulp) are produced here, which are used in varying degrees in MMK virgin fibre as well as recycled cartonboard qualities. The consistent high qualities of BCTMP and CTMP are also available and freely traded on the market.
MMK FollaCells BCTMP is characterised by its excellent capacity for absorption and a high bulk. The fibre material is largely processed in the paper and cartonboard industry and is most commonly used as a filler material in the middle layer of cartonboard as well as in tissue production. The highly bleached grades are mainly used in the production of printing and writing paper.
The fact that the realisation of innovative, future-oriented product concepts is also possible here and the application range is wide is demonstrated by the following special application: cut CTMP is excellent as a growing substrate and therefore can replace turf, which is subject to strict constraints for growing and leads to the destruction of agricultural land.
The production of chemothermomechanical pulp at the MMK FollaCell AS mill is state-of-the art based on continuous research and development, both in terms of raw material quality and sustainability. All qualities are, of course, available with FSC® or PEFC certification.
The raw fibre materials come from sustainable managed forests as well as controlled sources and are regularly tested by an independent third party. We also cooperate closely with the renowned Paper and Fibre Research Institute in Trondheim, to develop tailor-made pulp best suitable for the different application fields and of course also to continuously improve our MMK cartonboard qualities.
