Advent in the spirit of sustainability – MM Packaging Premium Vienna and Confiserie Heindl show how it’s done!
The Christmas season is just around the corner and with it the time for Advent calendars. But this year there is a special novelty: for the first time, Confiserie Heindl’s Advent calendar is made without a plastic inlay, purely from cartonboard. This was made possible by the customised solution from MM Packaging Premium Vienna: the Carton Cavity System (CCS).
Collaboration leads to success
The virgin fibre cartonboard qualities ALASKA® STRONG and ALASKA® BRIGHT from MM Board & Paper are used for Confiserie Heindl’s Advent calendar. But it’s not just the board of the Advent calendar that is sustainable, the inlay is also plastic-free thanks to the Carton Cavity System. This system was developed by MM Packaging Premium Vienna and is characterised in particular by its versatility in application, its principle, its barrier and its integration.
Flexibility and precision – a customized solution
The Carton Cavity System is available in both positive and negative variations, either with or without a frame. It can be supplied as stacked inserts or in flat format and enables high-quality printing and finishing. The principle consists of a passe-partout (as a blank or frame) and individual cavities that are joined together. The depth of the cavities can vary as long as the composition is symmetrical.
Wide range of applications due to diverse barrier options
Various options are available in combination with the Carton Cavity System to achieve barrier functionality. Barriers via lacquers, special cardboard or PE coating are possible. Based on experience, no major adjustments to the existing filling machines were necessary when replacing plastic trays with the CCS solution.
The Advent calendar made from mono-material cartonboard is a symbol of sustainability and shows that it is possible to use environmentally friendly alternatives at Christmas time too. With this collaboration, MM Packaging Premium Vienna and Confiserie Heindl are not only creating a wonderful Advent season for us, but also reducing the unnecessary consumption of disposable plastic and thus making a contribution to the environment.
