Potatoes packaging from Hofer – Making the ordinary extraordinary
It doesn’t always have to be a bag: together with MM, the Austrian retailer Hofer has developed the “Erdäpfelkiste” (“potato box”), which is not only a real eye-catcher, but also practical for storage. At this year’s ECMA Congress, the extraordinary packaging received one of the coveted awards.
The potato box is a plastic-free packaging that allows consumers to easily handle and store the product. It features a practical carrying handle and a solid crash-lock bottom. The packaging is made of Microflute with Liner from MM Board & Paper, converted by MM Neupack.
Compostable viewing window
On the top of the box, which can hold 2 kilograms of potatoes, there is a viewing window made of a clear cellulose film. In this way, consumers can check the quality of the potatoes at a glance. The film is food safe, biodegradable and “OK compost HOME” certified.
Award for extraordinary solution
At the European Carton Excellence Award (ECEA) 2022, which took place in Krakow (Poland) on September 15, the potato packaging impressed the jury and was honored with the Food & Drink Packaging, Recycled Fiber Award. The jury’s comment:
“Who would have thought that a potato pack would win one of the main awards? This packaging is a fantastic piece of work that you can open and close very easily, with comfortable carrying ergonomics. The shape of the pack is intriguing and distinctive in the retail environment, while the brand communication is perfect. You can also see the product through a biodegradable window.”
The ECEA Award is considered Europe’s most prestigious carton packaging award. We are proud of the award received and congratulate all winners.
