MMP Neupack Hirschwang: Future-oriented investments in e-commerce packaging

Mayr-Melnhof Packaging is investing ca. EUR 20 million in a future-oriented program at its Neupack Hirschwang plant in Austria.

Focus on e-commerce and high-quality microflute packaging
MMP Neupack Hirschwang will be repositioned as a high-performance site for the growing markets of e-commerce packaging and high-quality printed consumer goods packaging in fine flute (microflute) for products such as food, pet food and household appliances.

In addition to the construction of a production hall and warehouse, investments will be focused on innovative printing technology, increased die-cutting capacities, automation technology in the packaging process and in state-of-the-art infrastructure.

MMP Neupack Hirschwang produces offset-printed folding cartons and packaging made of laminated corrugated board (B-, E-, and F-flute) with a high level of finishing such as UV inks and varnishes. The latest investment in a state-of-the-art printing unit takes this specialization into particular account.

New offset printing machine: format 6, 7 colors, 2 varnish and UV
20 people, 14 trucks, 280 tons in weight and 8 weeks installation time: All this was necessary to start up the new format 6 offset printing press in Hirschwang beginning November 2020. It is one of the few presses of this type in the region and therefore meets the high demands in the target markets of MMP Neupack Hirschwang.

“The extensive investments in our printing capacities and machine park will strengthen our range of multicolor, high-quality printed folding cartons and micro-corrugated board. Especially in times like these, which are boosting e-commerce markets, we need to be well positioned for the future. The new press will also improve our ecological footprint,” says Herwig Hirsch Managing Director, MMP Neupack Hirschwang.

After the offset press, a new die-cutter and a flexographic printing machine will be purchased in a further step. This comprehensive future program is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
