Why travel-size packaging is becoming the most strategic format for the beauty industry

What used to be seen as restrictive for beauty and cosmetic packaging is now its most strategic asset. The 100ml or 3.4-ounce container, now more eloquently known as the travel-size or ‘minis’ pack are booming and projected to grow from $5.8 billion in 2025 to $9.3 billion by 2034.

For consumers, the trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon. With the minis on the move and going straight from the shelf into consumer shopping baskets, they are now a firm travel staple, irrespective of future mandatory aviation ruling. It’s no longer just convenient for consumers, it’s a key part of how they discover new products and brands without having to commit to larger, more expensive purchases upfront.

MM Packaging travel packaging

Mini skincare and fragrance products are a purchasing sweet spot for hotels, spa and wellness retreats to help travel tourism brands build stronger relationships and brand loyalty with the customers. In duty-free areas, they are fantastic for picking up on-the-go as a small luxury treat before boarding. They also make for great free samples or try-ons at pop-up stores in shopping centres, serving as an effective bridge to a full-size purchase.

They are also more economical too. Budget-friendly to the consumer and use less packaging materials to reduce environmental impact where possible. Great for consumers who only use them for traveling and want to opt for less bulky products in their checked luggage.

For brands, minis are a little bit of strategic magic. And consumers are certainly basking in those little moments of wonder. Talk to our MM Packaging experts today to see how we can create mini magical moments for your travel-size packs.
